Sarada is a Senior Research Associate in the Future of Finance initiative at Dvara Research. Sarada Mahesh is a lawyer from Bangalore and is currently based in Chennai. She has previously worked at organizations such as IT for Change and Aapti Institute in Bangalore, and the Alan Turing Institute in London. Sarada’s work has looked at the impact of technologies on rights of vulnerable persons, particularly in emerging economies. Some of her previous work includes the impact and intersection of technologies on online gender-based violence, agricultural non-personal data and biometric identity systems.
This blog is based on the recent uptake in conversations on the reformation of the know-your-customer (KYC) process in the financial sector. We find the periodicity of the current KYC system to be of concern for various reasons. The periodic updates of KYC present a burden on the customer to validate themselves every few years, failing which they are at risk of being excluded from the financial system.
